“UNITED WAY OF BLOOMFIELD PRESENTS TUITION SCHOLARSHIPS TO BLOOMFIELD DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION
2014 SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM”
(Bloomfield, NJ): At a ceremony held today, the United Way of Bloomfield (UWB) Board of Trustees presented a $2,500 scholarship check to Michael Sceurman, Director of Recreation, for the Bloomfield Recreation 2014 Summer Camp Program. These funds will help to cover the costs of summer camp tuition for a number of families who applied for assistance for their children to attend a series of camp sessions. This is the first year that the UWB has offered the summer camp scholarships.
“We are pleased to present this check to Mr. Sceurman on behalf of all those who have made this scholarship program possible through their generous contributions to the United Way of Bloomfield,” said Laurence Karosen, President of the UWB Board of Trustees. “The Board unanimously agreed to make this donation to ease the financial burden for families in need, along with the opportunity to provide a fun and exciting summer for their children. We look forward to working with Mr. Sceurman on many future projects and endeavors that will provide this type of assistance to Bloomfield residents.”
“When the United Way approached me about this donation I was thrilled,” said Michael Sceurman. “We have many Bloomfield families struggling to make ends meet and the financial assistance goes a long way in ensuring that every child has the same recreational opportunities regardless of their financial situation.”
The application process took place back in late May and was overseen in partnership between the UWB and the Department of Recreation. Each application was reviewed and all applicants were contacted and interviewed by phone. Final decisions were made based upon individuals meeting the specific outlined criteria. All of the $2,500 has been designated to cover the cost of camp tuition.
There are three session of Bloomfield Recreation Camp, each running for a two-week period starting June 30 and ending August 8th. Campers enjoy sports, interactive games, special events and one field trip per session. Each daily session is from 9am to 4pm.
